Imagine facing one of the most difficult moments of your life—a domestic violence situation, the loss of your home, financial exploitation, a denial of veterans’ benefits, or a family crisis—and not being able to afford the legal help you need.

For thousands of individuals and families throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, this is a reality every day.

Justice should never depend on a person’s income, yet too many people are forced to navigate complex legal issues alone simply because they cannot afford an attorney. Without legal assistance, a family may lose its home, a senior may become the victim of fraud or abuse, a veteran may be denied earned benefits, or a survivor may remain in an unsafe situation.

The consequences extend far beyond one individual. When people cannot access legal help, families become less stable, communities bear greater social and economic costs, and problems that could have been resolved early often become far more difficult and expensive to address.

That’s why the Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino exists.

For more than six decades, we have provided free civil legal services to those who need them most, helping individuals protect their rights, resolve legal challenges, and build safer, more stable futures. Through legal representation, courthouse self-help clinics, community outreach, and partnerships with courts, schools, nonprofit organizations, and local agencies, we help ensure that justice is accessible to everyone—not just those who can afford it.

The need continues to grow. In 2025, we served more than 7,500 clients, benefiting over 21,000 household members. From January through July 2026, we have already served 4,690 clients, and we are on track to assist more than 8,000 households, positively impacting over 30,000 household members this year alone.
